| First Bourbon drink: | 1991, a friend of mine introduced me to what we now call a Dirty
Bourbon. Double shot on ice, splash of coke, two cherries. In fact we have quite a
tradition involving the consumption of it. Check it out here: http://davidpatrone.com/bourbon.htm |
| Best Bourbon Experience: | One night, myself and this fella Tim, well, we were drinking our
Dirty Bourbons in a bar in Iwakuni, Japan. We were veteran drinking buddies and although
he outranked me by quite a bit(He was a Marine Staff Sergeant and I a Lance Corporal), we
used to like to drink together. Dirty Bourbons, which, by the way come with two cherries, are a concoction which we came up with around 1991. Over the years, we have created a tradition concerning the process of drinking these drinks. the details of which, you can find on my Band's website: http://davidpatrone.com/bourbon.htm When your night is over at a particular establishment, you take your cherries out, eat them, and then attempt to tie the cherry stem into a knot with only your tongue. We were pretty good at this. In Japan, the locals were extremely intrigued by it and would often challenge us to timed cherry stem tying contests in which drinks or money were on the line. We were pretty good at making a profit at this and looked forward to it every time we went out. Well we were getting really sauced one night and Tim gets particularly braggardly. We've won some money and a lot of drinks from these fellas at the bar. He tells them, "I'll bet you 100 bucks I can tie these two cherry stems into a square knot." Both hands held up like "A OK" gestures with a cherry stem protruding from where thumb and forefinger met. After much examination and physical explanation(They didn't know what a square knot was until we demonstrated with a rope from behind the bar, at which time it became known to them as some other knot), they agreed. Then the haggling began between how much money and in how much time. With a lot of face making and frowning and audible exhalations, we decided: One hundred American dollars if he could do it in under a minute. It took thirty eight seconds. |
